Good evening everybody, Chelmer bear reporting in. Regular readers may remember my session drumming with local band 'The Usual Suspects' at the end of last year which I reported on in the blog The Beat Goes On. What a great evening that was, and what an adrenalin rush I had!
Now I don't wish to boast too much, but it seems my fame as a drummer is spreading, as the other Saturday I was invited to do a spot of drumming to accompany a singing workshop.
This was quite different different to my last drumming performance. It wasn't all about noise and thrashing the drum as hard as I could. This time I had to feel the beat and just use fingers to tap out the rhythm. I couldn't help but dance as I drummed as African songs are so full of life and I just couldn't keep my feet still. I wish I'd known what everyone was singing about, but unfortunately my Swahili isn't very good.
I would have loved to take this drum home as it looked as good as it sounds, but I handed it back, leaving my business card of course, should a drummer be needed again soon.
Lots of love, Chelmer & Rocko xxx

We all like your drum, and can understand why you were loath to give it up.
We also applaud your support for Traidcraft and Fair Trade fortnight. We at the Midlands Branch are, however, not so keen to support Red Nose Day, as we have read that only 60% of the money donated goes to charity and feel sure that other causes can do better than that.
We were pleased to see the Suffolk Branch held their own party to celebrate the 100th blog, and are looking forward to visiting them in two weeks time.
Dear Auntie G and Friends,
We were very worried when we read your comments about Comic Relief so decided to do some research. We decided the best Bear for the job was Oscar our accountant and book keeper, and this is his report.
I have done some research into Comic Relief and the only reference to 60% I could find is the fact that 60% of the money we give goes to good causes in Africa, However, the remaining 40% goes to good causes in Great Britain. (So perhaps that’s where you go the 60% from).
However, being a conscientious bear and knowing how concerned all my brothers at the Norfolk branch were about whether all their efforts were in vain, I went to the published accounts for Comic Relief for 2006 at www.comicrelief.com and discovered that the trustees at Comic Relief are very concerned about this very thing and that it is important that every penny raised through events on the night goes to the good causes. Although obviously there are expenses incurred in raising the funds and they explain how these are paid for giving a very full explanation on page 4 of their accounts, of their concerns and how this is done.
I am very happy therefore to recommend to all branches of BU that we should continue to support comic relief.
I hope this goes someway to answering the concerns of the Midlands branch.
Love Oscar xxxx
